The EquaGel Straight Comfort Gel Cushion continually adjusts and redistributes pressure with its unique grid design. The dry-polymer flat gel cushion provides comfort and support and has a rubbery feel. This cushion is the most popular EquaGel wheelchair seat cushion in skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities.

The EquaGel Straight Comfort Gel Cushion features a revolutionary grid structure that is soft and supportive and continually adjusts to the user's movements. The most amazing feature of EquaGel cushions is column buckling, the way the gel grid responds to the weight of the user. Each wall of gel supports only a light load. When that threshold is exceeded, the wall of gel buckles into the hollow area between walls and passes the weight to the surrounding walls for support. This pressure redistribution happens instantly and repeatedly until the maximum surface area of pressing weight is evenly supported and the pressure is equalized.

The EquaGel Straight Comfort Gel Cushion is 1.75 inches high. The top layer is a thin wall of gel with a tight grid configuration for added comfort. The bottom layer is a thicker wall of gel with a wider grid for deep posture support. The four way stretch cover maintains airflow and is fluid resistant. Velcro patches are included to secure the cushion to the chair. The cover also features a handle for easy transport.

Q: What weight range is optimum for using the Equagel straight comfort cushion?

A: Given the design of the EquaGel Straight Comfort Gel Cushion grid pattern there is not an optimal weight. There is only a point at which the grid patter is rendered ineffective. Up to the maximum, each grid supports a certain amount of weight before weight begins being absorbed by the next grid. The weight is absorbed at a uniform rate, so long as it is on a flat surface, until the weight is dispersed across the surface. Whether the user is 100 or 300 pounds, the 'cushion' is relational to the user. So, there is not an 'optimal' weight per se given the nature of the design.
